No More Cable

We are now subscribers to peasant vision. Well actually as of November 25 we will no longer have cable. I was inspired by this friend who just recently cut off her cable. This is some thing I have wanted to do for a long time....but because for so many excuses never did until yesterday. I think I just got to a point that I had to do some thing. I will admit I was using the tv as a baby sitter. It is so convenient to plop the kids in front of it and get some peace and quiet, which in reality at this house never was actually achieved very often. I tried to make rules and allow only an hour or two a day, but I never stuck with it and I hated the fight so I just would give in. I also feel that though there is much good on tv there is so much bad on tv. Things that my children never need to see, things that I or Kal never need to see. Kal and I are some of the biggest offenders in watching tv. We took the tv out of our room today, partly because Lila is in our room and sleeps much better when it is not on and dark and partly because I am sure we can come up with some thing better to do than watch tv. ;o)
So once that day actually comes we will see how we and the kids handle it. Kal is going to miss his hockey games, I am going to miss TLC and Jackson will miss TeleToon, but I think in the end we will be better. We plan to play more with the kids, take them outside, read to them, and get back to basics. Maybe getting back to basics should be our family motto...by the way saving $70 a month does not hurt either!

good for you guys!

we only recently have started having cable, and the only reason is because being resident managers, we get a deal where it's basically free with our internet. i grew up on peasantvision, so i don't typically turn to the tv for entertainment, i usually read a book instead. hopefully that stays the case even though we have too many channels :)

I can't imagine having any tv. We have ours hooked up to the DVD player and that is it (not even PV). In 8 years of marriage we've never had it, never had it as a SA with roomies, and I don't remember having it as a kid growing up. Not that it counts much since I hid in my room with a book all the time.

Have fun getting back to the basics!

We don't have cable either...And it has been the best decision for us! I find that Austin is much more creative when tv is not an option....he spends more time exploring and less time repeatedly asking to watch tv, specifically hockey. It is not even the programs I have a problem with, it is all the advertising!!! Our little kids, sponges as they are, are becoming the puppets of big business thanks to tv! I also find that I have sooooo much more time for other things which is an added bonus. Once it's gone for a week, you won't miss it at all!

Good luck :)

Oh how I envy you!!! I could definitely do without the TV but Keith was raised by his parents (TV and Coca-Cola) and can't seem to break free. You are living my dream!

However...I could NOT live without my internet...I'd have to get news and such somewhere! LOL

I'm with you guys. Matthew and I have not had TV since we got married. Its been 2 years of no cable. We have a TV for Movies but that is it. We have done more together because of it. I'm sure you will find so much more time in your day because of this.

Good luck adjusting though.
